Tips for maintaining a healthy oil heating system during winter

2010-08-24 17:10:00

As the autumn approaches, now is the time to take measures to ensure your oil tank remains in tip-top condition as the weather gets colder.

There are several steps you can take to ensure the health of your tank and oil heating system in general. The first will be a service of your oil heating system and boiler through a policy such as Team Energy’s boiler maintenance scheme. A skilled boiler maintenance person will be able to take care of any issues the boiler may be having to avoid disruption when winter arrives.

Check the oil tank itself for signs of corrosion and make sure your Signalman and Watchman alarm systems are in place and working correctly.

If your steel tank is corroding, consider upgrading to a bunded plastic oil tank.

One of the other important areas to check are the pipes and other components, which could be leaking. Check filters, gauges and pipes for small cracks, which could cause leaks that are dangerous to the environment. Having a Watchman system in your tank will monitor oil levels and sound an alarm if levels suddenly drop – indicating theft or a leakage.
