Boiler scrappage scheme gets extra funding in Scotland

The Oil Firing Technical Association (OFTEC) has welcomed news that the Scottish Boiler Scrappage Scheme is to receive a further £1 million in funding.

The scheme was launched back in May 2010 by the Energy Savings Trust and offers anyone wanting to replace their old boiler £400 towards the cost. The Boiler Scrappage Scheme was launched with just £3 million in funding, but this has been extended by a further £1 million.

The scheme is forming part of Scotlands ambitious CO2 emission targets and intends to help reduce the number of inefficient boilers in the country. Currently, there is an estimated 250,000 homes with boilers that are less than 70 per cent efficient.

OFTEC Director General said the news was good for the oil boiler industry: "This will mean a continued boost for sales of oil boilers, more work for technicians and money saved for householders on their fuel bills."

Anyone with an oil boiler needs to ensure their boiler is running as efficiently as possible by signing up to an oil boiler maintenance scheme, such as Team Energy’s scheme. This scheme gives oil boiler owners peace of mind with regular maintenance check-ups by OFTEC registered engineers included in the price.
