Swimming pool fitted with new biomass boiler

2011-02-22 09:57:51

A swimming pool in North Somerset has received an energy face-lift this week with the installation of a new biomass boiler.

Portishead Open Air Pool - and the environment, in general - is to benefit from the changes to its energy supply. The West Regional Development Agency was asked to stump up funding for the biomass boiler by the pool's Community Trust. The newboiler is costing the Agency some £180,000 and it will be installed at the pool by the time it opens once more for the summer season.

The running costs of the pool are expected to reduce by an estimated £6,000 a year and the new boiler will be run on wood chips from local and sustainable sources. Currently, the pool heating system is an oil boiler that was installed back in the 1960s.

If you run a heating oil boiler and you would like to make your system more economical and energy efficient, consider signing up to a boiler maintenance scheme.

These schemes, such as the one offered by Team Energy, help to ensure that your boiler is running at its most efficient. Heating oil users living in the Portishead area can also buy Premium Kerosene from their local O J Williams depot in Avonmouth as a more environmentally friendly alternative to regular heating oil.
