Green Deal loans included in new energy bill

2010-05-25 16:19:00

Energy efficient homes are still high on the government agenda, after the Queen's Speech revealed the high-profile Green Deal scheme had made it into the Energy and Green Economy bill.

It was, however, the only element of the DECC's policy agenda that was included in the bill, which will require the government to re-assess which green policies require primary legislation and which can be enacted through other mechanisms.

The Green Deal permits loans to households for energy efficient improvements and to make repayments through their energy bill savings. Key to the Deal is that loans will be attached to the house rather than the person, making sure that when they move the repayments are passed on to the next occupier.

In a move that would appeal to the green building sector, it was confirmed that the Green Deal scheme would applyto both businesses and households.

An pre-emptive way of making your home more energy efficient is making sure your boiler is working at its optimum levels. This can be done by enrolling in a boiler maintenance scheme like that offered by Team Energy, who can provide oil boiler owners with peace of mind, even if their boiler has seen better days.

Boiler maintenance can make boilers safer and can significantly extend the life of an LPG, combi or oil boiler.
