British homeowners 'can't be bothered' to fit insulation

2011-09-07 16:24:00

New research from energy provider, Eon, has found that one in ten people say they‘can’t be bothered’ to insulate their homes properly against the cold.

In addition, 57 per cent of the 2,000 people questioned in the survey said they did not know how much money they could be saving if they invested in insulation. Many of those who said they couldn’t be bothered to fit insulation cited the fact that they have ‘too much clutter’ to fit the extra insulation into their lofts.

The Energy Savings Trust insists that investing in insulation makes financial sense, claiming that after an initial outlay of just £50, many households will see as much as £145 trimmed from their average heating bills each year.

Following the extremely cold weather last December and January, more people may begin to come around to the idea of fitting insulation.

Meanwhile, renewable energy could also be a solution, with a recent survey from Gemsery energy consultants finding that 61 per cent of Brits said they would be interested in generating their own energy at home.

Making sure your heating system is running as smoothly as possible is an importan tmove towards energy efficiency for heating oil users. Signing up to a boiler maintenance scheme, like the one offered by Team Energy, ensures your boiler is regularly serviced and any problems are fixed quickly.

Using Premium Kerosene, which is available from Emo Oil depots nationwide, is also a good idea as it is a cleaner fuel than regular heating oil that maximises the efficiency of a heating system.
